Gabriel Phillips, Managing Director
After working for over five years at premier energy trading firm Sempra Energy Trading, in mid-2010 Gabe left to start GP Energy Management in order to better serve the community of participants in all corners of the energy markets.
His experience at Sempra was diverse, consisting of trading a portfolio of financial and physical power and natural gas positions spanning every ISO territory in the continental United States. He analyzed customer deals, managed basis risk to 75 different locations using over the counter basis markets and Financial Transmission Rights (FTR) markets to hedge this exposure. In addition he managed financial tolling deals for two power plants totaling 600 mws. Operationally, he also managed the financial impact of a variety of physical and financial direct customer and cleared speculative positions in various regions. He negotiated transactions to reduce ancillary services costs generated by carrying large physical positions as well as to reduce Original Margin requirements with various exchanges and counterparties including NYMEX and ICE.
He held several positions at Sempra before his final position as a trader on the East Coast Term Power Desk spanning multiple groups such as Business Analysis, Credit & Collateral Management, Power Scheduling and Real Time Trading. Gabe consistently worked towards improving process efficiency and accuracy through automation and system enhancement in every role he occupied in addition to maximizing the return for the firm while minimizing risk.
Gabe holds a B.S. in Engineering Mechanics with a concentration in Robotics from the Johns Hopkins University Whiting School of Engineering.
Alexandre Baldassano, Senior Director, Regulatory & Renewable Energy Services
After three years at a premier environmental asset manager, Alex joins us with a wealth of experience from Natsource LLC. While at Natsource Alex sat on the trading desk as the lead trading assistant where he was responsible for back and middle office duties such as dynamic risk hedging across multiple portfolios, option pricing, and settlement of exchange traded derivatives as well as OTC spot contracts. Sitting on the desk he was at the forefront of international environmental commodity markets such as Certified Emissions Reductions and European Union Allowances. Domestically, Alex has experience with a wide range of national and regional environmental products like RGGI, EPA regulated SO2 and NOX, CCAR, CAR, VOC, and ROG.
After his time on the trading desk, Alex then transitioned to an investor relations role in which he analyzed and reported the status of Natsource's Asian and South American Clean Development Mechanism project portfolio, as well as domestic clean-tech private equity investments. Most recently as a project manager, Alex was responsible for the management of three of the largest UNFCCC registered projects in the world, where he acted as a liason between the project proponent and the underlying investor base of more than 20 large international utilities. In this role he was also responsible for analyzing the quantititaive impact of the ever changing regulatory schemes of UNFCCC CDM, as well as domestic and regional policy.
Alex graduated from Haverford College with a BA in Economics and completed his MBA at Fordham University in 2013.
Jonathan Spivak, Senior Director, Risk Management & Operations
Another veteran of Sempra Energy Trading, Jonathan joins the team with significant experience in financial services, having spent three years in credit and risk management, and two years in financial services consulting.
At Sempra, Jonathan’s responsibilities included management and maintenance of firm-wide official Position Summaries, Value at Risk, Profit and Loss, and Stress Reporting. As a credit analyst, his expertise was in collateral management, pricing marks, dispute resolution, and all aspects of margin activity including managing exposure and contract discrepancies.
Prior to Sempra, Jonathan worked as a financial sales consultant at Bloomberg L.P. where his expertise with the Bloomberg platform helped his clients optimize their ability to perform analyses across all market sectors through individually tailored strategies. Additionally, he held numerous seminars to train clients on the Bloomberg software with a concentration on commodities data collection and analysis.
Jonathan graduated from Bucknell University with a B.A. in Economics.
Dara Phillips, Vice President, Finance
Prior to joining GP Energy Management, Dara worked in the Finance Department at Corsair Capital, a private equity firm focused on investing in the global financial services industry. At Corsair Capital, Dara was responsible for the execution of the fund accounting, reporting and operations functions for the Corsair private equity funds. Dara started her career as an auditor for PricewaterhouseCoopers in their Asset Management group. While at PricewaterhouseCoopers, Dara lead the audits of mutual fund, hedge fund and private equity fund clients.
Dara is a certified public accountant. She holds a B.S. in Accounting and Economics and an M.S. in Accounting from the New York University Stern School of Business.
Joe Server, Director, Software Engineering
Joe joined the GP Energy Management technical team in September 2014 bringing more than 15 years as a software engineer to the group. Prior to joining GP Energy Management, Joe spent 3 years at Key Brand Entertainment as a Senior Django Developer using the same software stack currently used at GP. While there he architected the back-end for the complete rewrite of BroadwayBox.com and helped develop new features for Broadway.com including the creation of the public API.
Before that Joe worked for several years in the publishing industry at Condé Nast as a Java Analyst helping relaunch several web properties including the award-winning WWD.com. Joe also worked for 8 years at AEGON Insurance as an integral part of a group that brought the ability for customers to trade investment products on the web.
Joe earned his B.A. from Florida State University in 1995.
James Gale, Director, Natural Gas
Jim is another veteran of Sempra Energy Trading, bringing over 10 years of natural gas experience to GP Energy Management.
Over the course of his career at Sempra, Jim worked on both the physical and financial side of the business. In his time as a physical daily trader and scheduler, he executed transactions and made decisions concerning pipelines, storage facilities, power plants and a variety of end users and producers to efficiently manage their needs. Jim used his extensive knowledge of the pipeline system to recognize opportunities to move gas to the best possible markets for his customers. Jim then took his understanding of the physical market and its fundamentals and moved on to his final position at the company trading financial options on the various basis locations throughout the United States. Here Jim managed a variety of risk types entered into based on extensive market research. He also worked with both end users and producers to develop option strategies to help them hedge.
Jim graduated from Fairfield University with a B.S in Mathematics
Andrew Gleason, Portfolio Manager
Andrew Gleason joined the GP Energy Management team in February of 2012 as an analyst. Before joining GP Energy Management, Andrew worked with EarthKind Solar, a solar thermal distribution firm in Kingston, NY. While there, Andrew generated business development opportunities with municipalities throughout New York State utilizing NYSERDA grants for solar installations. He also worked with existing clients to understand and utilize New York state and federal tax incentives for solar installations. Andrew also worked in the Defined Contribution Inbound Call Center for the ING US Customer Service Department in Windsor, CT and as a job search associate with TheLadders.com in New York, NY.
Andrew graduated from Marist College with a B.S. in Finance.
Thai Nguyen, Portfolio Manager
Before joining GP, Thai served as a project manager at Phong Electric Inc., focusing on code compliance and electrical systems layout on commercial and residential projects in the New York City area.
Prior to his work in electrical contracting, Thai was a collateral analyst at Deloitte and Touche. There, he performed analytics on mortgage backed securities and facilitated the issuance of bonds in collaboration with investment banks, rating agencies, and legal teams.
Thai graduated from Boston University in 2004 with a B.S. in Business Administration and a concentration in Entrepreneurship.
Todd Heritage, Portfolio Manager
Todd joined the GP Energy Management team in June of 2014 as an analyst after graduating from Bucknell University in June 2014. While at school, Todd was captain on the Men's Lacrosse Team and completed his senior environmental project on sustainably renovating 6th Street, in Downtown Lewisburg. His team’s design plan was proposed to offer sustainable planning design features and functions for local community planners to be considered in the next two years.
Todd earned his B.A. in Environmental Studies, concentrating in renewable energy and also received a minor in Political Science at Bucknell University in 2014.
Morgan Faller, Portfolio Manager
Morgan joined the GP Energy Management team as an analyst in July 2014. While at school, Morgan was a member of Marist College’s student run Hedge Fund called The Greystone Fund, where students held a fiduciary relationship with the school and were responsible for maintaining and investing for the Fund’s portfolio. Within the Fund, Morgan was responsible for the Energy and Utilities sectors.
Morgan earned his B.S. in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from Marist College.
Thomas Pagnotta, Analyst
Tom joined the GP Energy Management team in August of 2014 after graduating from Purdue University in May 2014. While at school, Tom was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity where he was on the executive philanthropic and recruiting committees. Tom spent his summer vacations interning with GP where he supported the staff in various project and administrative tasks as dictated by the needs of the business. He also kept pace with the changing legal and regulatory landscape of renewable energy.
Tom earned his B.S. in Economics with concentrations in Business Management and International Business
Alan Southworth, Analyst
Alan joined the GP Energy Management team as an analyst in April 2015. Prior to his role at GP, Alan was a Research and Analytics Intern with Joule Assets, Inc., where he created and maintained a comprehensive database of demand response programs across all U.S. utilities and developed a notification system for predicting peak electric loads in PJM, ISO-NE, NYISO, and ERCOT. Alan also worked as a Data Analyst at pharmaceutical supply chain software provider, IntegriChain, in Philadelphia, PA before joining the team in NYC.
Alan graduated Magna Cum Laude from Princeton University in 2014 with a B.A. in Geosciences and certificates in Sustainable Energy and Environmental Studies.
Zoe Gaston, Analyst
Zoë joined the GP Energy Management team as an analyst in July 2015 after graduating from Bucknell University in May 2015. While at school, Zoë was a contributing member of the Women’s Cross Country and Track & Field teams and completed an independent study her senior year in the Economics Department on renewable energy. She collaborated with GP throughout the spring semester in order to gain an enhanced understanding of renewable energy and its constant regulatory flux, mainly in the northeast. Zoë also completed her senior environmental project on developing a proposal for a local carbon offsets program in Lewisburg.
Zoë earned her B.A. in Environmental Studies with a minor in Economics at Bucknell University in 2015.
Gianna Schiavone, Analyst
Gianna joined the GP Energy Management team in August 2015 after graduating from the University of Dayton in May 2015. While at school, Gianna was Vice President of Alpha Kappa Psi, a professional business fraternity. She also spent the summer of 2013 participating in an independent study with an economics professor, working on statistical and economic modeling. In the summer of 2014, she interned for GP where she worked with the firm’s various financial models and spent time learning the energy industry.
Gianna earned a B.S. in Business Administration with concentrations in Finance and Economics and a minor in Accounting from the University of Dayton in 2015.
Erin Horleman, Analyst
Erin joined the GP Energy Management team as an analyst in June 2016 after completing her master’s degree at The New School in NYC in May of 2016. While in school, she completed her master’s thesis on government funded renewable energy projects based in low –income communities in the NYC metropolitan area. During her undergraduate education, Erin was a member of the women’s Track and Field team at Bucknell University, as well as a contributing member of the Environmental Club. Erin spent a year as an intern for GP where she supported the regulatory & renewable energy services team and gained a thorough understanding of the dynamic renewable energy sector and the various regulatory obligations that accompany it.
Erin earned her B.A. in Geography and Anthropology from Bucknell University in 2014, and her M.S. in Environmental Policy and Sustainability Management from The New School in 2016.
Ray Quezada, Senior Software Engineer
Ray joined GP Energy Management in September 2015. Ray began his career working at Rutgers University building web applications and databases from the ground up for Rutgers University student, faculty/staff, and academic research departments. Ray also worked at a full service telephony and internet company, Monmouth Telecom. There he helped pioneer software that provided a web interface for customer telephone features that safely propagated updates to main telephone switches. Ray has also worked as a consultant for Robert Half and Kforce designing solutions for companies such as LexisNexis and Hachette Book Group.
Ray earned his B.S. in Computer Science from Rutgers University in 2005.
Jacob O'Donnell, Technology Contractor
Jacob joined GP Energy Management in July 2014 as a technical advisor. He helped establish an Agile process, while simultaneously working with the team to deliver new software.
Previously, he was the CTO at a startup, building the iOS app and backend. Jacob spent the three years before that as a consultant at Cyrus Innovation, building products for various startups in the NYC community. Jacob has had experience in a wide range of technologies as well as industries, which help him bring a fresh viewpoint to the team.
Jacob earned his B.S. in Computer Science from Bucknell University in 2006.
